SESSION ABSTRACTS AND SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES:

 First Speaker

Name: Ken Steinberg

Topic/Title:  Ender's Game, Saving the IA Universe

Abstract:  When the computer was first created, security was not a "top of mind"

subject matter. Decades later the threats are so powerful, so numerous, that security threatens the way in which we use computers and our future relationship with them. How did we arrive at this juncture in time and why was security so easily overlooked? There is much to be learned from the inadvertent mistakes the IT industry made in its rush to the PC era.

How will we use this information going forward? What can be done to get ahead of the cybersecurity "Whale Fail" curve? How will mobile and the ever-shrinking, yet pervasive computer platform transform to make security priority number one? Mr. Steinberg will lead us on a far reaching discussion of the past, present, and future of security, leaving no rock unturned. The next decade in IT will be championed by efforts in cybersecurity (system, network and data) and pervasive computing. Without forethought and planning, will the industry simply repeat history, stuffing the same problems in smaller packages and sprinkling them amongst "the Cloud"? There are far more questions than solutions. Join us as we discuss everything from mainframes to PCs, FDDI networks to Gigabit Ethernet, floppy disks to SANS, in an effort to understand where we have been and where we will go.

Topic/Title: IT Virtualization Security 2009 - Integrating Time-proven IT Security Principles with the Advantages of a Virtualized Linux Environment on IBM System z

Abstract: Managing Data in transit across a large enterprise.  How a SOA solution can help secure in flight information.   Virtualization and server consolidation offer many benefits, especially in the current economic environment. We will examine these opportunities and the challenges they pose for security and compliance on the Linux on IBM System z platform - and how time proven security principles can be applied in virtual environments on the mainframe.

Bio: Dave Rivard is a presales engineer for SSH Communications Security and a 25 year veteran in the IT industry.  As a Security engineer Dave has lead Mainframe Security package conversions , automated provisioning projects and architect the framework for Identity Federation infrastructure at a large Foreign West coast auto maker.  Dave has been with SSH Communications Security for a year and a half.
